The Future of Call of Duty: Mobile: What Lies Ahead?

call of duty

Since its debut, Call of Duty: Mobile has been one of the top mobile games. Adapting the classic shooter series to mobile has been one of Activision’s best decisions recently, with the game still boasting millions of active players globally.

Recently, rumors have suggested that Call of Duty: Mobile’s end might be near. Microsoft’s attempt to acquire Activision, the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, and other factors have stirred concerns within the game’s community. But is there genuine reason for worry? Let’s examine the situation.

Could Call of Duty: Mobile soon vanish?

Microsoft’s comments leave little doubt—their aim is to phase out Call of Duty: Mobile. However, the reality is more complex, as Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision is on hold, making their intentions currently irrelevant. Meanwhile, Activision has expressed full backing for this key product. “We are dedicated to Call of Duty: Mobile as a crucial element of the entire Call of Duty franchise and our mobile strategy,” stated Activision. “We intend to support the game for the long haul.”

With this in mind, Call of Duty: Mobile fans can stay calm for now. Despite differing plans from Microsoft and Activision, the stalled acquisition means Microsoft’s plans are not imminent.

What will happen when Warzone Mobile launches?

Here too, opinions differ between Activision and Microsoft. Microsoft aims to allocate all resources to Warzone Mobile, sidelining Call of Duty: Mobile, while Activision’s strategy is different. Activision plans to maintain both projects concurrently, as it does on PC and consoles with Warzone and other Call of Duty releases. Thus, at least initially, Warzone Mobile will complement Call of Duty: Mobile, with expected cross-progress and interaction between the two games.

What’s the future of Call of Duty: Mobile?

Although the long-term future of the game is uncertain, primarily due to Microsoft’s acquisition attempt and differing plans, there’s no immediate cause for concern. Call of Duty: Mobile will continue to receive new seasons with fresh content—maps, game modes, events, weapons, and more. For now, we must wait and speculate about the long-term. It’s worth noting that the acquisition is temporarily blocked by a U.S. judge, though the European Union has approved it.
